Why Google?

What made Google so popular was how simple, convenient and reliable the search engine was. Having a highly intelligent algorithm that identifies and acquires the information requested from millions of results in the fastest time possible which proved to be effective. Half a second of delay to provide more results was responsible for a 20% drop in traffic. Prioritising popular search results over the highest bidder to provide more accurate results, made google a very user-friendly search engine that excelled in what it was meant for.

And here is where google excelled over every other search engine by implementing AdWords. An online advertising service which was cleverly implemented to show ads without compromising the user experience. By presenting very few ads, making it obvious and not mixing it up with your search results, AdWords is generating over 95% of Google’s revenue.

How the Search Engine works?

Google’s algorithm is quite unique in its nature as it becomes more reliable and accurate the more it is used because of the machine learning and advanced algorithms that has been improving, since the company started two decades ago.

Google’s search engine uses a variety of methods to indicate which websites are related to your search such as Crawling and Indexing, Search Algorithms and Useful Responses.

  • Crawling and Indexing: it works by searching for the keywords typed in, in Google’s index and asks every site more than 200 questions to see how relevant the site is to your search. It also uses page rankings, where Google ranks each website’s importance by looking at how many external links points to it and how important are these links.

  • Search Algorithms: it works by analysing your words, compensating for spelling mistakes and searching for synonyms. It matches your search with every site and checks for how many times the word was mentioned, and if the page includes the same language used by the user. It uses the ranking system and considers context to return the best result.

  • Useful Responses: It works by trying to understand what you mean and present you with the best result without you having to click on each website and search for the exact text that includes the information requested.
